Nestled in the idyllic Spessart, high above the charming town of Lohr am Main, the Roomingtons Hotel Franziskushöhe welcomes you – a retreat full of peace, comfort and natural beauty. Surrounded by deep green forests and with sweeping views of the Main valley, this stylish hotel offers the perfect combination of relaxation, enjoyment and hospitality. The rooms are modern and cozy, and furnished with great attention to detail – many having balconies and magnificent views. The in-house restaurant offers regional specialties and fresh, seasonal dishes – always with a touch of creative sophistication. For relaxation after a day full of discoveries, peace can be found in the small but refined wellness oasis.

Deep green forests, enchanted valleys and gentle hills – the Spessart is one of the most mysterious and most enjoyable regions in Germany. Located in its heart is Lohr am Main, a charming half-timbered town on the river, and the ideal starting point for discovering the nature, culture and cuisine of the Spessart.

Here, where wagoners and fairy-tale characters once roamed the woods, you can now hike, cycle or simply enjoy the tranquillity of the countryside. Explore the enchanting town of Lohr, with its historic old town, fairytale castle and Spessart Museum, and relaxed riverside promenades along the river Main. The Spessart is also a region for true connoisseurs. Franconian specialties include game dishes from the local forests, hearty sausages, handmade dumplings or the famous Spessart trout. These can be found on many menus – fresh, regional and served with a big heart.

The Franconian wine from the Lohr and the neighbouring Main valley is the perfect accompaniment. Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau and Bacchus show a fine freshness and regional typicity. Whether at the vintner, in the wine tavern or at one of the traditional wine festivals – wine is not simply a drink here, it is a lifestyle.

Arrival in Lohr am Main, the gateway to the Spessart. Check into the elegant Hotel Franziskushöhe, in its idyllic location overlooking the town. Afterwards, enjoy free time until dinner.

The Franconian royal seat of Würzburg is today’s destination. Nestled in the picturesque wine landscape of Lower Franconia, directly on the river Main, Würzburg delights visitors with its baroque splendour, Franconian joie de vivre and lively atmosphere. The Residenz – a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its magnificent halls and courtyard garden – towers impressively above the old city centre. From here, follow the route through the lively old town, taking in the imposing St. Kilian’s Cathedral, the Gothic St. Mary’s Chapel and the atmospheric market square. A walk across the historic Old Main Bridge is a highlight. Here, locals and visitors meet over a glass of Franconian wine – with a view of the Main and the Marienberg fortress perched high above the city. The day culminates with a visit to the Juliusspital, one of the largest wineries in Germany, with around 163 hectares of vineyards. The wines, in particular the Riesling and Silvaner, are internationally renowned. Enjoy a guided tour including wine tasting, and learn about the historic wine cellars beneath Würzburg’s city centre.

Today is a scenic tour through the legendary Spessart – a paradise of deep forests, gentle hills and charming half-timbered towns. A highlight of the journey is the stop in Mespelbrunn, where the famous moated castle in the forest appears to come straight out of a fairy tale. Explore the romantic castle on a guided tour. The journey continues through the lovely Elsava Valley and the wine town of Marktheidenfeld, following the Main back to Lohr, where this impressive journey through the Spessart concludes.

Get to know Lohr am Main on a guided tour. One highlight is the Old Town Hall on the market square, a Renaissance building dating from 1599 to 1601, with its impressive architecture and historic Michaelsglocke bell. Another landmark is the Bayersturm, which was built between 1330 and 1385. Standing 40 metres high, it offers magnificent views over the town and the Spessart. Lohr Castle, originally built in the 14th century, is now home to the Spessart Museum, which offers fascinating insights into the region’s history. The afternoon is free for exploring further. To round off the day, the hotel invites you to an exclusive dinner, complemented by perfectly paired wines.

After a leisurely breakfast, say farewell to the idyllic Spessart.
