We would particularly like to recommend the following trips to you. You will see that not only Amsterdam and the North Sea coast are worth a trip, but in some ways other regions are even more so. Stay centrally in Lelystad and get to know the beautiful regions of the Netherlands.
From Lelystad you can easily reach all the sights of the Netherlands, the port city of Enkhuizen on the Ijsselmeer with the Zuiderzee Museum, the former world heritage island of Schokland, Giethoorn and the Weerribben nature reserve, the Hanseatic towns on the Ijssel and the castles in De Veluwe.
On your day of arrival, you will stop off in the former Hanseatic city of Deventer. During a city tour, you will see the historic city center of Deventer with the impressive building of the old city scales, which now houses a museum. The local tour guide will also show you the town hall, the Grote Kerk, the Bergkirche, the oldest stone house in the Netherlands and you can enjoy a wonderful view of the IJssel from the riverside promenade.
Lelystad is a relatively young city and is located on the Flevopolder, which was created by land reclamation measures. In Lelystad, directly on the shores of the Ijsselmeer, is the Batavia shipyard, where historic sailing ships are reconstructed in their original form. From Lelystad, national road 302 leads across the Ijsselmeer to Enkhuizen, a picturesque harbor town in the province of Noordholland. In Enkhuizen you can visit the Zuiderzee Museum, a beautiful open-air museum. From Enkhuizen you continue via Hoorn – an important port of the East India Trading Company in the 17th century – to Volendam, a picturesque fishing village on the Markermeer. You will then continue to Amsterdam, where you will be taken on a canal cruise. You return to your hotel in the late afternoon.
Today you will first travel to the harbor town of Urk on the Ijsselmeer. Enjoy a stroll through the harbor and the view of the sea before heading to the World Heritage Site of Schokland. Schokland was an island that was connected to the mainland by dykes. The museum there has a permanent exhibition on the history of the island and its embankment (admission not included in the price). The tour guide will then show you the picturesque Hanseatic town of Kampen in the IJssel delta. From the Spoorkade you can enjoy the magnificent panorama with its large sailing ships and historic merchant houses. You can also visit a historic Hanseatic cog in Kampen.
After breakfast you start your journey home. If you have enough time, we recommend a short stroll on your own through the small Hanseatic town of Elburg on Lake Veluwe.
