Dresden – the jewel on the Elbe. Dresden – also known as ›Florence on the Elbe‹ – boasts a wealth of architectural and cultural treasures. Highlights include the magnificent Frauenkirche, the stunning Zwinger palace complex, the world-renowned Semperoper opera house, the Royal Palace with its spectacular Green Vault, and the scenic Brühl’s Terrace overlooking the Elbe river. Though heavily damaged during World War Two, Dresden has risen from the ashes, reclaiming its status as a cultural metropolis. Today, visitors can once again immerse themselves in the splendour of the 18th century and experience the city’s rich baroque heritage first-hand.
In the afternoon, a local guide will lead you on a scenic city tour. Starting at Postplatz, pass through Altmarkt and Pirnaischer Platz, then head past the Great Garden and along the Elbe to the famous Blue Wonder bridge. After a brief stop in the New Town, the tour concludes with a walking tour of the Old Town, featuring iconic sights including the Frauenkirche, the Zwinger, Stallhof, Fürstenzug, the Royal Palace and the Semperoper opera house.
Visit the Meissen porcelain manufactory and stroll through the old town to view the cathedral and Albrechtsburg Castle. After a lunch break, enjoy a guided tour of Moritzburg Castle and its baroque park.
If it takes your fancy, enjoy a short morning stroll along Brühl’s Terrace before beginning your journey homeward.
