A journey of discovery through a region full of history, nature and pleasure! In Wallonia you will find majestic castles, mystical caves and medieval towns, unspoiled nature parks and impressive landscapes in the Ardennes and/or on the banks of the Meuse. Pari Daiza is another absolute highlight on the program – the best zoo in Europe and at the same time a journey through time – from the beginnings of the world to the present day – staged in a fascinatingly unique way.
Travel to Namur, the capital of Wallonia at the confluence of the Meuse and Sambre rivers. Here you should definitely explore the Citadel of Namur – one of the largest fortifications in Europe with a spectacular view of the Meuse. Afterwards, we recommend a stroll through the romantic old town with its cozy alleyways, cafés and boutiques. Afterwards, drive to the selected hotel location.
Breakfast at the hotel, then drive to Dinant in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes. Here, visit the citadel of Dinant with a cable car ride and great views of the Meuse. Short stop at the Collegiale Notre-Dame and the famous saxophone monument (Dinant is the home town of Adolphe Sax). Then it’s on to Maredsous Abbey, famous for its delicious beer and cheese. Here you can visit the abbey and relax in the green surroundings. Alternatively, you can plan a boat trip on the Meuse, e. g. to Freyr Castle. The castle is located in the middle of the charming Ardennes landscape, directly on the banks of the Meuse.
Pairi Daiza in Hainaut has been voted ›Best Zoo in Europe‹ several times and has been awarded three stars by the Vert Michelin Guide. You will be taken on a journey through the five continents, where you will meet more than 7,500 animals housed and living in large areas. Over 800 species are protected in Pairi Daiza, in nine worlds where authentic buildings, diverse plantations and the rarest cultural wonders will transport you to the five continents. A globally unique production that lets you escape from everyday life.
Finally, you will visit Liège. The entire old town is characterized by sights from the Middle Ages, including the Romanesque collegiate church of St. Bartholomew. An absolute must is a walk through the historic Carré district and a visit to the Montagne de Bueren – a spectacular staircase with 374 steps and a magnificent view. If you have enough time, you should plan a detour to Liège-Guillemins station, an architectural masterpiece by Santiago Calatrava.
