As part of a city tour, you will explore Groningen, the capital of the province of the same name in the north of Holland. During your tour, you will see the most important sights, such as the famous Martini Tower, the picturesque ›Hofjes‹ or the historic warehouses along the canal. Then continue to your booked hotel and check into your room.
Today you will take a trip through the Lauwersmeer National Park, one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Netherlands. In addition to a picturesque landscape and diverse flora, the area is above all a paradise for birdwatchers. The Lauwersmeer is one of the most important bird areas in Western Europe and is an essential link in the bird migration that takes place in spring and fall. In the afternoon you will visit Menkemaborg, one of the most beautiful castles in the province of Groningen. The historic castle with its picturesque gardens gives visitors an impressive picture of life and living in the 18th century. During the summer months, don’t miss a visit to the blooming rose tunnel!
After breakfast, you will go on an excursion to the Steenwijk countryside with a tour guide. Your tour will first take you to the town of Steenwijk, a former fortified town full of history. The tower of the Sint-Clemens church, the stately art nouveau villa Rams Woerthe and the town museum are just a few of the town’s highlights. Sublime merchants’ houses, winding alleyways and numerous national monuments from the Golden Age await you in Blokzijl, the next destination on your excursion. Don’t miss out on a walk through the listed harbor area! Passing Vollenhove and St. Jansklooster, your route finally leads you to Giethoorn. A canal cruise awaits you in picturesque Giethoorn, the ›Venice of the North‹. The small municipality lies in the heart of the Weerribben-Wieden National Park, a unique nature reserve with an unmistakable landscape. The small, characteristic wooden bridges and thatched farmhouses create a particularly idyllic atmosphere.
The museum village of Orvelte is a village in the heart of the province of Drenthe. The historic thatched farms characterize the landscape and create a very special atmosphere. Some of the farms regularly open their doors to visitors. During various demonstrations, you can watch a blacksmith, a Dutch clog maker or the dairy making cheese (extra costs may apply). Various nostalgic stores invite you to take a leisurely stroll. You then start your journey home.
